Industrial training - Transformation of a student to a professional

Industrial training, the first day I heard of it, I decided to go for it. When I asked for the feedback of it to anyone around me, there was no single person to give me a positive response as they all are new to that jargon (it is actually a part of 3 year CA articleship).

When I was searching for an opportunity for Ind trng, I hardly found any then I realized how it feels if someone is jobless. It’s really difficult to digest the fact that one cannot find a job for him/her. At last after the hunt of 3 months, I lost hope and decided to go back home and prepare for exams. At that moment I got an opportunity from Credit Suisse, Pune. Attended the interview, I was selected and got the offer letter, joining after 2 months. Hence went back home, started my preparation for exams.

I have attended two interviews till now; everybody very well knows how it feels before attending an interview, that too for a beginner. I just made myself sure of one thing, after interview (which may last hardly for 15min) everything gonna be normal. So why to worry now, keep yourself cool even during interview. One can make wonders during interview with such attitude. The same thing happened with me when I first joined the company, almost for 2 or 3 weeks there, not able to feel comfortable with anyone, everything looking strange and new. I know I am okay with my communication skills, can manage things, I know I have to learn many more things, but still I felt I am communicating the worst. Ofcourse when it comes to work I am good at it, understanding everything that is taught to me and I also have to concentrate on my studies. Many more things running in mind during the first 3 months of industrial training.

I was completely in a confused state, was not knowing whom to ask, and then I answered myself saying, “This is not permanent”. Initially everything and everyone looks new to us, but later on as the time passes, we get to know more about others and feel more comfortable than before.

Before starting Ind trng itself I started my preparation for exams, have completed coaching for few subjects as well. After I joined the company, when I started my preparation again and started attending classes, I can see a change in my approach towards studies. I felt the difference because of the change in my environment, I got to know what the company actually expects from a CA and where I understand, so to fill up the gap, subconsciously I started to act for it.

At the end of my Industrial training, now if I compare myself to what I was a year ago, I can see a drastic change in my confidence levels. Industrial training had transformed me from a CA student to CA Professional (ofcourse I still have my exams to clear), but as a CA student I don’t feel insecure to step into this world after being a CA.

I personally suggest every CA student to undergo Industrial training if you have decided to go for a job after being a CA. After you clear your exams the direction you go decides your entire career life. If you undergo Ind trng you will get an opportunity to get into this corporate world, and after being a CA you will be in a comfortable position to understand, analyze and act in a right manner that decides your future as a qualified Chartered Accountant.

What I have observed in this period is, the company will have less expectations on you when you are a trainee, and so you get more space to improve yourself without any pressure of reaching anyone’s expectations. Only when you are free from expectations, you actually can perform well, and the best you can.

The most important thing I learnt in this one year in “If we focus on SMALL things, we'll miss the BIG things in life."

The best compliment I received is, “I don’t complain about anything and accept everything”.
